Goings On

It has been a busy few weeks. I thought I'd post a few highlights and stories.

Douglas' last day of preschool was yesterday. For a kid who loves school (and has no real idea what a summer break is because our schedule has been so crazy), he was sure excited about it. We had his end of year picnic last night. He and his classmates sang a silly song and he got a certificate. He told us excitedly that now that he isn't in preschool is a kindergartener!

A few other funny Douglas stories:
  • The other night he was checking out his rib cage in the mirror while brushing his teeth. He asked me to come in to see his skeleton.

  • Tony gave him an Iron Man action figure as a little "graduation" gift. He was telling me about tonight and said that Daddy was very proud of him and that he was "thankful for me." How true!

Claire is growing up and learning new things every day. This past Sunday was Westside's annual pie and dessert auction. Claire was the highest bidder on a little pack of chocolate cookies (see photo above). She went up and got them and then proceeded to pass them out to folks in the audience. She is a charming little one for sure. Thanks to Juanita Martus for the great photo.

A few other funny Claire stories:

  • Claire is officially weaned from her pacifier, after losing her priviledges getting caught sneaking it out of her crib during the day (she just had it at nap and night time). Tony caught her one day and gave her a warning that if it happened again that she'd lose them forever. The next day, he caught her again and she said, "uh-oh, uh-oh." She acted mopey and sad, but didn't throw a fit. I guess she felt the punishment, though harsh, was fair. Either that or she is making a list of things to tell her therapist some day.
  • Last night, we were getting her ready for bed and she was looking at the pictures on the diaper box. "Mommy" she'd say and point to the picture on the box. "Baby," she'd say while pointing to the little kid on the box. She pointed to a drawing of a caterpiller on the box and looked up to know more. I said "It's a caterpillar" to which she replied "Meow."
