Snow Daze

Last Sunday, Portland got snow. All week we got school closures, power outages, and ice. Today, it snowed all day. The airport was all, but closed, which meant our family was waylayed in Vegas (different story). All this drama lead to all sorts of funny conversations and situations. Highlights below.

Our Christmas light deer in the front yard had been blown over in the wind. Douglas chastized the deer, affectionately named "Bucky" for sleeping in this morning.

It is a sad situation indeed when your Christmas decorations are laying down on the job.

We finally got him put back upright and he seems to be staying on his feet with this latest storm, thankfully.

Claire picked out a new hat this week. To warm her ears, as she said. It is an oversized, two-toned pink herringbone pattern with a little brim on it. She looks pretty hip, I must say.

Now, it looks particularly cute (sigh) when she is plugging her ears in the car, because she doesn't want to listen to Christmas music and her family singing.

"Doh-us, Mommy, stop singing," she begs ("Doh-us" being short for "Douglas," naturally).

Douglas said that with the week of snow days and Christmas break, the school had decided to give him the "winter off" (just like they give him the summer off).

After days of these weather, we broke down and got the kids new, warm, water-proof boots. The plastic bags and duck tape that Douglas wore in the privacy of our back yard were just not going to cut it out in public. He stayed dry and loved making and throwing snow balls.

Claire's sparkly cowgirl rainboots are cute, but not quite as practical as her new insulated ones for this kind of weather.

More photos in the family photo album.

At least you can sing! It could be worse.

Hope the kids are having fun. It's a bit too icy today, but still so pretty.

It could be tough explaining to Douglas next winter when he DOESN'T get the winter off! I am glad you guys are having fun. I am also so glad to see that Claire has such a fashionable sense of style!
