We're Back and We're Off

We arrived home on Memorial Day from a fun visit to Iowa and Texas. We visited Tony's sister and family in Iowa just in time for Orange City's amazing tulip festival. This community, founded by Duth settlers, pulls out all the stops. The marching band wears wooden shoes, there are windmills everywhere, and everyone is in authentic Dutch costumes. The street cleaning (in the picture to the left) was fun to watch. Tony's neice and nephew marched in their school bands in 6 parades while we were there and we got to ride rides at the carnival. There we also played in the park, climbed the tall tree house, played with cousins, saw a play, ate food cooked in Sean's solar oven, and enjoyed visiting with everyone. We have posted lots of photos to our family photo album.

From there, we headed to Abilene to visit Jennifer's folks, sister, grandma, and other family. It was Mano's 85th birthday and the family treated her to our own "Extreme Home Makeover" of her yard. In the end, she got a new mailbox, a new patio arbor, a raised vegetable bed, a flower box, and lots of new plants. It was a lot of hard work, but worth the effort. Douglas loved dressing in his Home Depot apron, hard hat (after all, yard work can be very dangerous), and playing with his cousins.

In the middle of our vacation, Jennifer's company announced an acquisition. As a result, we'll be moving temporarily down to the Bay Area of California in a few weeks, as she will be on site to lead the integration of the company. We'll be posting regular updates to this blog and our family album (see link to the right). Bookmark the site or subscribe to our RSS feed for all the updates!

This great photo was taken by Jennifer's cousin Matt Maxwell.
